Dream Camera: Mail-In Film Service: 120processing.com

    dreamcamera:

One of the challenges of shooting film is relying on a lab to develop your photographs, especially as more labs convert to digital-only or shut their doors altogether. I develop my own B&W film, but have to rely on a lab for color.

The quick and affordable local lab where I get my 35 mm film…

Another page from the “What did the lab do to my photo?” section.

This is something that we do occasionally where I work (120processing.comOldSchoolPhotoLab.com)… so, if you ever get an extra frame in your scans with what looks like two different exposures this is why:

I took this shot with my holga knowing that the final image wouldn’t allow me to have a lot of detail in the sky and on the fort, but without resorting to HDR this is what we have to deal with. I scanned the frame twice, adjusting for the sky in one and the fort in the other.

In the end I decided to use the shot that had more detail in the fort and shadows and used photoshop to pull the midtone levels down so that some of the contrast showed in the clouds. It doesn’t feel quite as dramatic, but I like it better than what I could get out of the dark scan.

@woundforward's fantastic comparison of 120 processing options

Extremely thorough and helpful review (including costs, times, and other details) comparing 120processing.com, the Darkroom, and Lomolab (and Walmart). 120processing.com comes out on top.
